In many cases, my clients find themselves going through a difficult set of circumstances and seek my services, especially when they have incurred a financial setback as a result of someone else’s wrongdoing. My goal is to maximize my clients’ recovery, while minimizing the legal expense of doing so. By utilizing my extensive knowledge of substantive and procedural law, I aggressively advocate on behalf of my clients.

 Profile

In 2002, Matthew graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor of Arts, with Great Distinction. He subsequently attended law school at the University of Victoria, graduating in 2005. During his final year of law school, Matthew got his first taste of legal advocacy when he represented his university in the Gayle Moot competition held in Toronto, Ontario.

Matthew then went on to article in the litigation department of a large international law firm, Macleod Dickson LLP (now Norton Rose Fulbright LLP), practicing litigation there following his call to the Bar. In March of 2008, Matthew returned to Lethbridge and, in June of 2010, Matthew joined Huckvale LLP.

Matthew has successfully represented his clients in numerous matters before the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench and the Alberta Court of Appeal. Matthew has also appeared in front of several Administrative Tribunals.  Some recently reported decisions, in cases in which Matthew has successfully represented his clients’ interests, include:

  • Beimler v. Kendall, 2017 ABCA 117 – In this case, Matthew successfully argued at the Court of Queen’s Bench for the summary dismissal of a claim challenging the validity of a will. he again succeeded in defending the validity of the will at the Court of Appeal.

Community Involvement

Giving back to the community is crucial to Matthew. He has spent time providing assistance at Calgary Legal Guidance and Lethbridge Legal Guidance, providing free legal advice to low income individuals. He recently finished serving on the Board of Directors for the Lethbridge Association for Community Living, a not for profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of special needs children and adults, as well as their families, and advocating for their full inclusion within the broader community. Matthew has also volunteered his time in the past with Scouts Canada.

Matthew enjoys reading and hiking. As a dedicated family man, he spends as much time as possible with his wife and children.
