Profile
Born in Lethbridge, Mariko grew up on Vancouver Island before moving to Rhode Island to attend Brown University. While obtaining her bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Mariko spent a year studying abroad at Keio University in Tokyo, Japan. during her time at Brown University, Mariko was an active member of the Brown University Orchestra. Following her graduation from Brown University, Mariko moved to Tokyo, Japan where she worked in finance.
Mariko later returned to Canada to attend the Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. While studying at the Allard School of Law, Mariko volunteered for the UBC Law Review as well at the Law Student’s Legal Advice Program where she assisted low-income clients with their legal issues.
During the summer after her second year of law school, Mariko returned to her roots in Lethbridge and was employed as a summer student at Huckvale LLP. Upon obtaining her Juris Doctor in Law, Mariko returned to Huckvale LLP as a Student-at-Law and stayed on with the firm as an Associate upon her call to the bar in September of 2015.
Community Involvement
Mariko currently serves as the Treasurer of the Lethbridge/Macleod Bar Association. Mariko also volunteers at the Nord-Bridge Senior Centre assisting members with their legal issues. She has previously served as a Board Member of the Lethbridge Association for Community Living/Inclusion Lethbridge.
Outside of work, Mariko enjoys baking, walking in the coulees, and running. Mariko is fluent in Japanese and is pleased to offer services in both English and Japanese.
